There is za spy among us!
That is one phrase you will hear once too often in this decent, but overall average game.

Yes the dialogue isn't great "zee germans" will often repeat the same lines again and again and all are obviously US actors putting on woefully bad impersonations. The russian accents are particularly bad.

You will also spend a fair portion of the game ambling through some wartorn city in order to get to your next mission. This wasn't as bad as I had expected, but I did feel it stopped the momentum of the story. It felt very much like a filler to make what is ultimately a short game, seem that bit bigger.

But none of this matters because...

You get to bludgeon, chop, obliterate, burn and liquify a legion of Occult worshipping Nazi's! It's almost as good as if Maralyn Munro did in fact marry Charles Manson, and then had oral with a ouiji board. (christ where did that come from!?) Maralyn Manson was born...anyway I am blabbering now sorry.

Yes the game mechanics are solid, and fun, I particulalry enjoyed using the Particle Cannon. Charging into a room full of Nazi's and pressing the trigger of this weapon gives you such satisfaction, you'll forget all about The Black Sun, the Reich and that dasterdley devil Deathshead.

If you like searching for things there is plenty of Intel and Gold (which is spent on upgrades for your weapons and Veil Powers) to be found in your travels, but I couldn't help feeling this detracted from the fantastic core mechanic. Why not just give me all the damned power and weapons to begin with? I'm tired of games that shoehorn these same features.

I do like the silenced Kar 98k = yummy

Play it right
Yes don't go into this game with any preconceptions and don't even bother to look at the achievements in my view. Just run around shooting the hell out of anything that vaguely resembles a Nazi and if you are anything like me you will be reunited with what made you play FPS games in the first place. Gems like Duke Nukem and Doom which didn't rely on the oh so boring everyone-does-it cover mechanic. That's not to say you won't ever have to take cover, you will, but the game doesn't require you to forever play peek-a-boo...recharge your health and your Veil energy (which allows you to shift to another dimension) and you can launch yourself at the enemy again full throttle. This was refreshing.

Multiplayer
I was hoping for much more from this, considering I have a lot of respect for ET...this is drivel in comparison. It's very unbalanced. New players will be completely creamed by anyone who has been playing it for a few hours since their weapons will be upgraded. I would literally be shooting someone in the back of the head for them to turn around and kill me in a few hits! Once you've been playing for a few hours I suspect this won't be a problem, but CoD4 managed an upgrade system that didn't unbalance things too drastically so this has no excuse.

The actual class system seems quite good and will reward teamwork, but in all the TDM matches I joined I didn't find many playing this way, and it got dull very quickly.

Summary
I couldn't reccomend this at the full RRP, but if you rent it or get it on the cheap you won't be dissapointed.

Raven didn't make the multiplayer side of it. Which is strange. LINK these guys did it if they even exist anymore as the site is down and I read recently they had to lat staff off.

Interesting review

That explains it then, I couldn't imagine Raven doing such a horrid job of it.
And thanks, I'm glad you found it interesting

I got this at full RRP because I have a credit note a gamestation burning a hole in my pocket...

It is nice from time to time to go back to a game that is all about obliterating you enemy with ott weapons with no regard to stealth or realism. I must admit I played most of the game with the Kar 98k tbh and the occasional machine gun, mowing down a squad of Nazis with enrage and a MP whatever the better one was and watching limbs etc flying all over the place was quite satisfying. Aside from the Particle cannon the other big weapons were a bit pants.
